Meet in the garden
Come discover the Sculpture Garden during the “Rendez-vous aux Jardins” event on June 6 and 7, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Both days:
-Self-guided tour of the Garden: After a personalized welcome, follow the sculptures and scenic views. The orange hue of the bricks gives way to the varying shades of green in the spring foliage, as well as the patinas and textures of each work in bronze, cement, or resin. The Garden was designed as an invitation to daydream. Experience the balance between artistic forms and the living landscape. Our visitor app, featuring an audio guide in French and English, allows you to discover the history of the site and the creation of the Garden.
-Discover the “Garden of the Impressionist Painters”: Discover 20 bronze busts of major painters from the Impressionist era, created in public during the 2010 and 2013 Festivals, presented for the first time in a dedicated space within the Garden. These busts are set in a rustic atmosphere inspired by Impressionist landscapes, featuring a rose garden. Feel free to bring your drawing or painting supplies to sketch or paint outdoors in the Sculpture Garden, a vast, poetic space spanning 7 hectares: the shimmering colors of the plants, the texture and form of the works, the shifting light—all elements waiting to be captured. A place of inspiration where you can give free rein to your creativity.
-Exhibition “The Impressionist Gardens of the Rouen School”: Discover some thirty paintings on the theme of gardens, by artists of the Impressionist era, in the château’s salons. These nature-loving painters invite us to take a closer look at nature, to contemplate its colors as they change with the seasons, the light, the textures of the plants, and the contours of the landscapes.
Events on Sunday, June 7:
-Sensory guided tour at 2:30 PM: This tour recounts the creation of the Garden by Jean-Marc de Pas and invites visitors to pay attention to the colors and shapes of the artworks, plants, and the site’s architectural heritage. This experience can also be explored through the sense of touch for people with visual impairments—gently touching the plants and sculptures—as well as through smell—smelling the seasonal flowers, pausing to listen to the birdsong. Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes.
-Tour of Jean-Marc de Pas’s studio from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM: After visiting the Garden, you will have the opportunity to explore ongoing projects and the materials used in the studio: clay for creating the original artwork (on frames for monumental works) or sometimes wood, the process of creating an elastomer mold of the work with resin reinforcement shells, and the process of producing editions of the works from these bronze molds using an art foundry, or in the studio using resin, cement, or plaster.
